Tell your neighbor a young man here in the states decided to make a speed bump himself. He had two signs made that said SPEED BUMP AHEAD. Then got some paint to match his city's color and just put the signs up then painted the street. He didn't have a speed bump just the appearance of one. It did slow things down for a while.
Villages are so much nicer when they are without cars. It's a pity the way that the train was rerouted and ended up having the opposite of desired effect. Like so many things in life, unintended consequences.
I don’t know of many places that are truly without cars. Even Castiglion de Fiorentino
(Sp?) a village in a castle in Italy, had cars, even with those narrow windy roads. I don’t mind normal traffic but it gets a bit insane some evenings, an hour long traffic jam going past the front gate. Im just glad our house is set back with a half acre forest in between. We have friends who are just inches from the road!
When I had the Alfa in Lyon, left hand drive to boot, I thought I was going to melt down in the old part of the city. Parking was it’s own nightmare, it sure did love to go fast though.
I live on a little residential street that unfortunately provides a handy bypass of a major intersection where it can take a couple of light cycles to get across. It is essentially a quarter-mile straight-away, and is posted at 25 mph. Cars typically race down the street at 40+ mph. The town put up a radar speed sign that tells people how fast they’re going, which only makes them go faster.
You described the usual state of our street perfectly. We are all going to be so sad when the slow parade comes to an end, mid-late September.
otoh - now that there is no traffic noise at all, it's become extremely noticeably how noisy our roosters are. They are the loudest thing for 5 blocks!

I envy you your (temporarily) quiet avenue.

Molly the Lab is the loudest thing on our street Milo is trying to beat her, but he’s still a puppy.
