I grew up with feral chickens! They ran all over my grandparents property over on the coast in Atascadero. I also lived in the little town of Arroyo grande over on the coast in California. It’s well known for its feral chickens that run around town. Thank you, I love this!
You are the first friend of feral chickens who has made themselves known to me… were you able to pick up the chickens at all? (please say you never wrung a neck…)
I didn’t do it, but I watched my grandmother ring a lot of necks. 😬. I’m not sure if the ones in Arroyo grande are friendly or not. I’ve never tried to pick them up. The ones at my grandmothers scared me. I did love the little Chickies when they were born. All the neighbors would come and get them. 🐣🐥🐤
Nice article! I have 9 donated orphan babies in my basement. 2 of my dogs would gobble them up if they could. Cant wait to get them in a proper home though.
Years ago, my wife and I raised some chickens. They came in the mail, and you had to pick them up at the post office. They didn't come into the house, but they enjoyed their barn. We did have a few roosters but only one Alpha. My wife and I could roam around the chickens, but visitors were not allowed. Loved the eggs and when I was digging a garden, they made sure all the worms and insects were removed. All had personalities of their own.

My flock is now demanding its own Facebook page.
😄🐔😄
I love LOVE love this post. It’s a favorite. I love knowing the intimate details of the flock. I love knowing what characters they are.

chickens in the mail is ncredibly charming but also disturbing…
That is how we used to receive them. After 20 years with the post office in rural Arkansas I delivered many packages of baby chicks
Their personalities are very distinct!
Sandra do you have neighbors or not really? Was just wondering how they feel about your birds.
