“Somewhere on the property an owl makes its enquiries. Jake sleeps longer and better in the cooler temps …”
Same here. Today has been kinda warm for mid-September Boston at 85 degrees, but it’s still officially summer, for another week at least, and it gets down to the low 50s (F) at night. Molly the Lab seems to know what’s coming, she’s 11 so has been around the block a few times, and is getting her basking time in while she still can.
Jake stays out on the patio until the sun moves away, then spends later in the afternoon inside on his bed in front of the garden window. But late at night he sometimes goes out for a couple of hours, just snoozes out there in the dark, heeding his own little Call of the Wild.
I think Molly would stay out on the deck on warm nights if we let her. Problem is, she’s a barker. Didn’t used to be, but she was raised by Corgis, which are.
Love it all! Muito obrigado for your chronicles. Amazing to witness in detail the unfolding of a beautiful and functioning country 'estate' from what we visited exactly two years ago. You two are awesome! Miss you all and Jake. And the yellow chair? I vote YES!
Ha, I am from Illinois, that cold wind-swept prairie thing is REAL. Most of my youth I never dreamed there were places where weather was actually nice, much less all of the time. IMO the midwest has about nine perfect days of weather, most of them in October. I like seasons, but gentler like we have here in Portugal.
I love you even more when I see the still life with rooster feathers in a Maille pot next to a well-emptied and -enjoyed Beirão bottle lamp. Cheers!
That lamp was made for us by my neighbor Alberto. He made us two!

Beautiful! Your pictures transport me to the tropics where I live in my dreams during Indiana winters.
